Peak Physical Therapy now offers customized running shoe fittings to match your foot and walking style.
Tips for choosing running shoes:
- Try shoes on in afternoon or evening preferably as feet tend to swell throughout the day.
- Try shoes with the socks you will be wearing to run in.
- CHOOSE SHOE THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR FOOT.
- Make sure the shoe is comfortable.
- Shoe should be one half inch longer than your toe, wide enough for forefoot and snug in the heel.
- Takes 2 weeks to break in a new pair of running shoes
Running Shoe Types
Cushion: Offers minimal support for control, but helps with shock attenuation. Good for people with ridged feet with high arches and tend to land in supination and stay there (ex. ASICS Gel Nimbus, ASICS Gel Cumulus, ASICS Gel Flux).
Stability (Structured Cushioning): Helps control excessive pronation, medium to low arches (ex. ASICS GT 2000, ASICS Gel Kayano)
Motion Control: Help limit foot movement in all directions. Good for people with low arches, excessive pronators (ex. ASICS Gel Forte, ASICS Gel Oracle).
